We have long known Game of Thrones to be show for the obsessed, Not only is the show full of dragons, murder and sex, it is also the perfect recipe to please geeks worldwide, in every aspect of the show. We know the show often sneaks in references to future plotlines, or nods to details omitted from the book, time and again, and eagle eyed as the Game of Thrones fandom is, we always tend to find these little easter eggs. The latest one is a tad too sneaky, and comes in with one of the official Season 7 photos HBO posted recently, specifically the one with Cersei and Jaime Lannister. Read on!
The last we saw, Cersei had gone the mad queen way, and blown up the Sept of Baelor, and a lot of people with it. We saw Season 6 ending with Jaime giving Cersei a bit of a look, which we have been reading way too much into, ever since. Now, the official Season 7 photos posted by HBO included one showing Cersei on the Iron Throne, and Jaime standing right next to her. Check it out, below :
A redditor by the name ofxpbso, pointed out a detail in the photo that is so sneaky, it needs a lot of zooming in, and a couple of deep looks, to even notice. Let us do just that, zoom in, into the sword :
If you haven’t realized it yet, the sword Jaime is wielding is the Widow’s Wail. You can see the red jewel and the golden bands around the hilt of the sword, which is pretty much enough we need to see to recognize it. If you don’t remember, let us remind you. The sword was last seen in Season 4, in the Purple wedding episode, where Joffrey Baratheon, the then king, dies. He uses it to chop off the book Tyrion gifts him, and the sword hasn’t made an appearance since then.
This sword appearing might mean another nod at the Valonqar theory about Cersei’s death, where “little brother” will kill her. The sword is called Widow’s Wail. We can’t trust the names to not be painfully obvious since the whole Hodor thing happened now, can we?
What do you think? Does the sword returning mean anything, or do you think it’s just instance of fans going into overdrive? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
