Where do you go after being on Game of Thrones? You go on to other big stages to showcase your talent and skills. And what better place than a show that’s lately been compared to the saga of ice and fire; The Witcher. The first season of the fantasy series premiered on Netflix in December 2019. And the production and filming of the second season have already begun. Kristofer Hivju (Tormund) recently joined the cast of Season 2; now there are rumors that Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell) has started working on The Witcher 2 as well. However, it’s pure speculation at this point and involves serious and reasonable doubt.
Redanian Intelligence has reported that Natalie was found hanging out with a crew member of The Witcher who works with Henry Cavill in a certain capacity. The English actress was riding a horse in Surrey, quite close to the filming location of the Netflix show. That’s not the only trail though. One of the key members of the casting department confirmed Dormer’s presence when she wrote on her social media: “When you remember every day is basically a Saturday on The Witcher. Bring [crew member] and Natalie Dormer, laughing, dancing and riding horses!!!”
Dormer and Cavill have earlier worked together on historical-fictional drama, The Tudors, 10 years ago. So, this could be a reunion after a long time. Among the new additions to the cast of The Witcher 2 revealed by Redanian Intelligence, the report believes Vanessa-Marie would be the most suitable character for Natalie. She is described as “a demon, who roams the land bargaining and preying on people’s deepest and darkest desires”; set to appear in three to four episodes out of eight. The original description says it’s for a very old white-haired woman but it could be changed to suit Dormer, as per the report.
An American fantasy drama series, The Witcher is based on a book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapowski. Henry Cavill plays the protagonist, Geralt of Rivia; the first season explored his narrative arc alongside two other main characters, Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra).
The news of Natalie Dormer’s casting has not been confirmed yet by any official sources. But if the rumors are true, she would be the second actor from the Game of Thrones cast to join The Witcher; after Kristofer Hivju’s casting as Nivellen. Her desire to do many projects in a short span of time made her want to leave Game of Thrones early so as to work on something else. So, this would also go up smoothly in that amazing list; which includes GoT, Hunger Games and the upcoming Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. Apart from acting, she’s also producing a series on female aviators in World War 2, through her production house, Dog Rose Productions.
Thus, we have no certainties about the news at this point, just anticipation, and excitement. Do you guys think Natalie Dormer should be a part of The Witcher 2? If yes, which role would she fit in the best? Tell us in the comments section.
