It is quite common for actors, especially in prolific roles, to get forever tethered to their on-screen character. The problem is further exacerbated when the character portrays an iconic figure in a franchise that has spanned for decades. When Doctor Who star Matt Smith was cast into the role of the menacing anti-hero Daemon Targaryen in House of The Dragon, many questioned his ability to play the morally grey role, as fans had mostly seen him portray a well-mannered and wise gentleman. However, all doubts were cast aside when the Game of Thrones prequel was finally released, showing once and for all how versatile the Doctor Who alum really is.
In a recent behind-the-scenes video from the set of House of The Dragon, posted by actor Leo Ashton (young Aemond Targaryen) on his Twitter account, we see Matt Smith being his amicable, easy-going self with the Targaryen and Velaryon kid actors. Many unfamiliar with Smith’s earlier works, which is still highly doubtful, found this in stark contrast with his on-screen character, Daemon.

In the vid posted by Ashton, Smith is seen bidding farewell to his young co-stars with a group hug and telling them it won’t be the same without the kid stars on the set. Ashton also wrote under the post how Smith consoled him and his mother on the death of his great grandma, understanding their grief.
