SPOILER ALERT! This post contains spoilers for Season 7 of Game of Thrones. Proceed at your own risk!
Great casts make great shows, and Game of Thrones is no less. The cast of the show has been fantastic, and it still continues to add stars to the show which match up to the standard of the cast. A few months ago, we had reported that that the Oscar-winning actor, Jim Broadbent, will be playing an important character in the movie. Now, Jim has revealed major details about his role in an interview. Read on!
If you don’t remember Jim Broadbent, let us remind you. One of his most recent roles you might remember, is the character of Professor Horace Slughorn from Harry Potter. He also starred in Moulin Rogue!, and in Iris, for which he won an Academy Award. He is one of the biggest stars to be a part of the cast of Game of Thrones. We didn’t have any details about his role until now, where he detailed some pretty spicy details in his interview with ScreenCrush.
Talking about his character, Broadbent said :
“I’m a maester, an archmaester. I’m an old professor character.”
That isn’t too big a surprise, considering how that was the number one prediction. He might play a character made up of several maester characters from the books, or Archmaester Ebrose, a well known healer, or Archmaester Marwyn, whom Samwell Tarly meets when he arrives at the Citadel in A Feast for Crows. Talking about Samwell, who is played byJohn Bradley-West, Broadbent said that his character shares his scenes with Sam. We’re guessing Broadbent will play the Maester who will guide Samwell in his journey to become one.
Talking about the actual filming, Broadbent said :
“I did five episodes. I did sort of one major scene in each episode.”
That’s awesome! However, we hope that he survives the season, because Broadbent is someone we wouldn’t mind seeing again in Season 8 of the show, as well. That is quite possible if Jim Broadbent ends up playing Archmaester Marwyn, who leaves the Citadel in the books, to find and advice Daenerys Targaryen. What do you think?
