5. Rhaegar’s Annulment
Gilly reveals some major news regarding Rhaegar Targaryen. It was so subtle, it was hard to take in the meaning of what she was saying immediately. Sam didn’t even understand it. But we do: Rhaegar annulled his marriage to Elia Marell, then married Lyanna Stark. This changes everything we thought we knew, including that Jon Snow is a bastard. He’s actually the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.
4. Littlefinger deceives Arya
After Arya returned to Winterfell, we weren’t sure how Littlefinger might fare against the newly reunited Starks. But it turns out he’s still one step ahead of everyone and has used Arya’s confidence and inquisitive nature against her. We should definitely be afraid for Arya.
3. Gendry’s Back!
All these years and we never knew what became of poor Robert Baratheon’s poor bastard, Gendry. Now we know that he rowed himself all the way back to King’s Landing and took up residence at a Flea Bottom forge. Gendry’s back in the game, and he’s older, wiser, and ready to fight. And with a warhammer! Baratheon representation is back on the show. Now if only he and Arya can reunite.
2. Jon meets Drogon
Fans have been dying for Jon to learn about his true ancestry. While he still “knows nothing” about being a Targaryen, he and Daenerys’ favorite dragon had a truly epic moment. At first it was unclear whether Drogon was going to eat Jon as an afternoon snack. Instead, they had a deeper connection, and Drogon clearly can recognize the blood connection.
1. The Magnificent Seven
7 Badasses unite to journey beyond the wall in the hunt for a White Walker. The mission sounds absurdly impossible, and how they’re all there at the same time in the first place is improbably convenient. But we can forgive the show because we’ve maybe never seen something as badass as this bunch heading out to demolish whatever lies in their path.

5. Jorah’s back… aaaaand he’s gone again
I’m not sure what’s worse: that Jorah miraculously quick-healed and fast-travelled back to Daenerys yet again, or that he left immediately to go on a life-endangering mission.
4. Sansa and Arya at odds
The Starks have been through too much already. Sansa and Arya need to put aside their differences and start listening to each other. Otherwise things will soon take a turn for the worst.
3. Too Many Meetings &Reunions
Jorah and Daenerys. Jorah and Tyrion. Davos and Gendry. Gendry and Jon. Tyrion and Jaime. Literally everyone at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea. A normal episode should probably be capped at one or two of these meetings. This episode had an absurd amount, turning what could have been touching moments into bland ones, as well as downright comical.
2. Jaime’s alive, no big deal
After leaving us with a cliffhanger at the end of the last episode (“The Spoils of War”), it turns out all our worries were for nothing. Jaime’s alive, unharmed, uncaptured. While that is good for fans of Jaime Lannister, it doesn’t make any sense, and was the least interesting creative choice by the writers.
1. Tyrion’s plan to capture a White Walker
Tyrion has not been doing too well in terms of bright ideas this season. The suggestion to capture a White Walker is bad for so many reasons. It’s completely impractical and dangerous, never mind how much time it would take – fast-travel aside – to travel beyond the Wall and all the way to King’s Landing. Then, in an ideal world, you still have to show the proof, once you have it, to Cersei Lannister. Even if she agrees, you have to march all the way back up to the North to fight a war.
