Game of Thrones has been gone for over a year, and set to return with Season 7 in less than two weeks, with the premiere date set for July 16th. Now, as you know, Game of Thrones usually had 10 episodes a season, but the showrunners decided to make season 7 have a lower episode count of 7 episodes, and Season 8 to have 6 episodes, which means we will get only 13 episodes now, instead of the 20 we would have gotten, had HBO stuck to the count. However, there is some good news about Season 8 that was just revealed, and that is that the final season of the show might have episodes which are as long as full-length movies. Read on!
Now, we have heard about all the episode lengths, for Season 7, and they don’t seem to have a considerable jump in run time in comparison to the shows usual hour long length. While most episodes clock in around the usual 60 minute mark, there are two which considerably surpass it, with the second last episode clocking in at 71 minutes, and the finale, at 81 minutes, which is close to being the length of a movie. Speaking at Con of Thrones, in Nashville recently, sound designer Paula Fairfield said that every Season 8 episode might be as long as a feature-length film.
So, it seems like we will be seeing six 80 minute+ episodes as the series draws to a close, reported Deadline. Now, there is the fact that even at that length, Season 8 will still run shorter than the usual run time of the all the season till now, but hey, we’ll take every last extra minute of Game of Thrones footage we can get! There is still one bad news, however, and it is that Season 8 might not air till 2019, which is a long, long wait. To sum it up, Season 8 of Game of Thrones will remind you of BBC’s Sherlock, a lot.
