Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon has created a huge hype amongst fantasy lovers. HBO is leaving no stones unturned in the marketing of the fantasy series. In the past few days, they’ve released several photos of some of the key characters in costume. Recently, one more important cast member has come under the attention of the Game of Thrones Reddit community. English actor Jonny Weldon has been cast as a character named “Samwell,” according to an update on his Spotlight page.
There has been nominated official announcement from HBO yet, but we know that is the case with a lot of actors. For instance, we have no information yet as to what role Graham McTavish will play on the show, but we know he’s there. For Jonny Weldon, however, we do have a name – “Samwell”.
Not to be confused with Jon Snow’s best buddy on Game of Thrones Samwell Tarly, Weldon will be playing a character who was present during the House of The Dragon. We cannot say for sure, as there is not much info yet. Many fans on Reddit are speculating he might be up for the role of Samwell Blackwood, the head of House Blackwood in the Riverlands during the civil war known as Dance of the dragons.
Recently, another House of The Dragon cast member previously unknown came into the limelight. Actor David Horovitch has been cast for an unknown role in the show.

Alcock will play a younger version of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. Rhaenyra Targaryen is the eldest child of King Viserys I and the only one surviving from his first marriage. Viserys names her as his successor and moulds her to be a ruler right from her childhood. Her claims are challenged after her father’s death, when Alicent pushes her son Aegon II Targaryen for the Iron Throne. She is one of the main characters and will play a major role in House of the Dragon. Emma D’Arcy plays an older version of Rhaenyra.
Carey has been chosen to play a young Alicent Hightower. Alicent is the second wife of King Viserys I Targaryen. She’s mature and ambitious, and wants to claim the Iron Throne for her family by any means necessary. She is the main adversary of Rhaenyra Targaryen, and pushes her eldest son, Aegon II Targaryen, to be the next king. She plays a key role in causing the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragon. Olivia Cooke plays an adult Alicent Hightower.

Game of Thrones ended nearly two years ago. The widely successful series left a blank on its wrapping up, reducing the viewership at HBO by nearly 50%. The television network is trying to win its audience back with a full-on effort with Game of Thrones prequels. First in the line is House of The Dragon, which is the only show confirmed so far. HBO has managed to create a huge hype for the upcoming series, by launching a teaser in their epic programming line-up for 2021-22. The big players have already been cast. Recently, an audition tape was leaked that hinted at the casting of the legendary Kingsguard twins – the Cargyll brothers.
Video was publicly shared by brothers John and Michael Cooke auditioning for the roles of ‘Edgar‘ and ‘Armand‘ in a project titled ‘Red Gun‘. It’s been known for a while that ‘Red Gun’ is the code-name used by HBO for House of the Dragon. The video was later removed, as reported by Redanian Intelligence.
The video dialogue made it pretty clear that it was indeed shot for a Westeros setting. It’s an established industry practice to use codenames with the same initials as the characters they are for. Conveniently, there are the Kingsguard twin-brothers Arryk and Erryk Cargyll that fit the formula. Both played a prominent role during the Dance of the Dragons, fighting on opposite sides of the war. Based on this and the dialogue, we can assume that ‘Armand’ is Arryk and ‘Edgar’ is Erryk.
