Game of Thrones is one of the most popular TV series, ever. Now, author George R. R. Martin does get most of the credit for having created the universe, and David Benioff and Dan Weiss get some, as well, for carrying Geroge’s ideas so well, but we tend to forget one important person : casting director Nina Gold. She has done her job very well, as we all can tell, having secured quite a few big stars to play characters on the show, as well as relatively new actors, who went on to achieve fame because of the show.
That’s not it. Nina Gold has also acted as the casting director for a lot of other big projects, including Star Wars : The Force Awakens, which is as we all know, a big deal, especially because the casting needed to be just right considering the legacy that the franchise has behind it. For her accomplishments, she has now been awarded the Hoyt Bowers Award at CSA Artios Awards, held by the Casting Society of America. The award was presented to her by director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams.
Talking about Game of Thrones in an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, she said
“I feel like a proud parent to lots of the wonderful actors in Game of Thrones.”
She also said that Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the show is one of her memorable discoveries from the recent times, having cast her right as she graduated from Drama school. She said that she loves casting new talent, as well.
“It’s so exciting watching them develop and have some fresh ideas.”
She also gets the credit for casting Daisy Ridley and John Boyega in Star Wars : The Force Awakens, and Claire Foy in Netflix’s The Crown, who won a Golden Globe, this year. There is no doubt that it Gold deserves the honor she was given. Without her, a lot of big projects would have been totally different. Just imagine Game of Thrones!
