The Starks on Game of Thrones have been separated for as long as we can remember, and fans have been expecting them to finally reunite in season 7. Our wishes were finally granted in this week’s episode, ‘The Queen’s Justice’. Though a lot of us expected Arya to arrive at Winterfell, it was Bran who came home and surprised his sister Sansa. It was an emotional moment as they met after such a long time apart. Bran did manage to confuse the heck out of Sansa by telling her about the Three-Eyed Raven, but the scene of their much awaited reunion was overwhelming for the viewers, just as it looked like for Sansa herself. Actor Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran, recently talked about the unexpected surprise during an interview with EW.
He echoed what the viewers were thinking it was like for Sansa to meet her younger brother after having faced a bunch of irreversible complications in the previous seasons.
“I think it’s a major shock for Sansa,” Isaac said. “She’s lost her brother once before when he fell out of that tower, and now Bran’s back but she loses him all over again. All the Starks have changed so much. Arya is like this ninja assassin. Sansa has been held captive by these tyrannical men and had to become politically cunning herself. But Bran is now this tree-raven-magic thing.”
He also spoke about how Bran’s personality has undergone drastic changes after everything he’s seen and been through, most importantly being the three-eyed raven now.
“It’s like imagining you have all of space and time in your head,” he said. “Bran is existing in thousands of planes of existence at any one time. So it’s quite difficult for Bran to have any kind of semblance of personality anymore because he’s really like a giant computer.”
Talking about how being the three-eyed raven affects his character, Isaac said, “Bran really at this stage is not the Three-Eyed Raven. He’s got the title but hasn’t had thousands of years of sitting in a cave looking through time. Somebody put in front of him a massive encyclopedia of all of time and he’s only opened page one. He can look stuff up but doesn’t have this all-knowing all-seeing capability just yet.”
There’s much to uncover when it comes to exactly what Bran’s return will entail now that he’s been marked by the Night’s King and arrived south of the Wall. Theories about his capabilities have been doing the rounds on the internet for a while, so it should be interesting to see which of those might pan out in the final two seasons of Game of Thrones. For now, we can remain content in the fact that the Stark family is coming together at last.
Tell us in the comments what you guys thought about Bran and Sansa’s reunion in this week’s episode!
