SPOILER ALERT! This post contains minor Game of Thrones Season 7 spoilers. Proceed at your own risk! Game of Thrones has some really intriguing characters, with storylines that have been designed in a way to make us fans speculate to no end. One such storyline is that of Gendry, Robert Baratheon‘s bastard. Ever since the character was first introduced, it had an air of mystery to it. We haven’t seen Gendry for quite a while now, and it’s about time we see him come back. A fan theory now talks about how Gendry could be a part of the end of Game of Thrones. Read on!
Now, the first time we saw him, was in King’s Landing, where he was the apprentice of Tobho Mott, one of the best armorers in all of the seven kingdoms, and one who knows how to recast Valyrian Steel. The last we saw Gendry, Ser Davos was helping him escape from Dragonstone, where he was being held captive by his uncle, Stannis Baratheon, and was due for slaughter on Melisandre‘s orders. He rowed away from his death, then, back in Season 3, and we haven’t seen him since.
The theory popped up in a Reddit thread asking the fans about their Gendry theories. User Sethg119 said :
“I believe we will cross paths with Gendry again in Oldtown when Sam starts his studies as a Maester. I believe that Sam will study the creation of Valyrian Steel and will require a smith. He will then go to the smith that resides in Oldtown who will be no other than Gendry.”
Now, through a few leaks, we know already that he is set for a return in Season 7. Actor Joe Dempsie, who plays Gendry, has been spotted on set, in costume, and we know that he’s going to play a part in the great war, and this theory is a great guess at how. Samwell Tarly is at The Citadel now, learning to be a maester, and it would seem logical that he unravels some secrets about Valyrian Steel, and then gets the job done with Gendry’s help.
Now, if they can indeed unravel the secret of how to forge fresh Valyrian Steel, a secret lost with the Doom of Valyria, it will indeed make Gendry, and Samwell, a major part of the end of the show, considering how Valyrian Steel is one of the few known things that can kill a White Walker, and well, Winter is here!
What do you think? Will Gendry play as big a role in the end of Game of Thrones? Or will he end up dead somewhere in the middle of all of it? Talk to us in the comments, below!
