Emilia Clarke seems to have really gone all out to prepare for Daenerys Targaryen’s final scenes in the series finale.
In her final speech given to her assembled army on the steps of the Red Keep, Emilia Clarke had to speak in both Dothraki and Valyrian, both fictional languages she had to learn over the course of eight seasons. And who better to take inspiration for a crazed dictator’s victory speech than Adolf Hitler himself.
“In giving all these speeches in fake languages, I watched a lot of videos of—now it seems funny—dictators and powerful leaders speaking a different language to see if I could understand what they were saying without knowing the language,” Clarke said, speaking to Variety. “And you can! You absolutely can understand what Hitler’s f*cking saying, these single-focus orators speaking a foreign language. So I thought, ‘If I can believe every single word I’m saying, the audience won’t need to be looking at the subtitles too much.”
Clarke said she stayed up late for almost two months preparing for her speech, rehearsing it on everything from her co-workers to her fridge and window.
All that rehearsing really did pay off, because Emilia Clarke’s performance was brilliant, to say the least.
What did you think of her final speech and her character’s fate?
Game of Thrones might have ended, but the stars of the show aren’t leaving our hearts, and our screens, anytime soon. For starters, we will be seeing Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark, take the centre stage as Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. With the movie set to release soon, Sophie recently compared Jean Grey to Sansa Stark. Read on!
The interview comes from HBO and appears to be a part of a cross-promotion of Game of Thrones and Dark Phoenix. It’s a video bit with Sophie Turner discussing the two franchises and lining up her two characters. Watch it below:
Sophie said:
“I’m always drawn to strong, independent women and Sansa and Jean are both that. They eventually use all of these terrible things that happened to them and they become incredibly strong women.”
She went on to compare them a bit more:
“Jean has had Charles Xavier as her mentor figure and teacher, and in this movie, there is no trust left. And Sansa on the other hand, [when] she’s in Winterfell, Jon and Dany are there and she doesn’t want to take orders from them,” Turner added. “She’s not happy about it, she wants to kind of run her own shit too but she is far more self-assured and powerful than Jean is.”
She also added:
“If the world’s were to collide, I think Jean would probably be a Targaryen. She’s the Phoenix. She rises from the ashes just like Daenerys does at the end of season one. It’s all about fire, baby!”
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will hit the theatres on June 7th. Excited? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
Stars are not always born (unless you are a celebrity kid), they make it through a combination of hard work, grit, and luck. Case in point, Richard Madden. Before Game of Thrones shot him into superstardom, the current heartthrob and Golden Globe awardee was living off five dollars a day.
Madden opened up about his initial struggling days on The Tonight’s Show with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon had asked, “I heard that you said when you started you were living off like five dollars a day?” To which Madden replied, “Yeah something like that. Kind of two options. I could either buy one meal or a newspaper and a pint. It went the other way usually!”
Game of Thrones changed all of that. But at that time, he didn’t know it would. When he aced the Game of Thrones audition, it just meant an opportunity to pay the next month’s rent.
Madden recalls, “I got that phone call when I was on my last month’s rent, and then that call came which was great … Then I asked my agent for an advance, and that helped me get through the next month’s rent.” When Fallon asked what if Game of Thrones didn’t happen, Madden was upfront: “Move back to my parents’ house. I was at that stage!”
From struggling to pay rent to making to the list of Time’s Most Influential 100 of the year, Richard Madden has come a long, long way. To think none of this may have happened without Game of Thrones!
Game of Thrones has always had to tread lightly to avoid its episodes and other relevant things getting leaked before the expected dates of airing. Rumour had it that HBO had filmed multiple endings for Season 8, to avoid leaks for the show, but HBO president Casey Bloys has now confirmed that that didn’t happen. Read on!
In a recent bit from the Game of Thrones behind the scenes documentary, “The Last Watch”, it was revealed that the show had previous actors as decoys to throw off leaksters, so it was being assumed by fans that the final season might have had multiple endings shot after all. However, in a recent interview with Deadline, Casey Bloys dismissed these rumours:
“I don’t think they actually shot multiple endings. But putting that in the water supply wasn’t a bad thing to protect against leaks. They always had a little bit of edge of doubt because you couldn’t be totally sure.”
He continued, stating he had never discussed the idea of decoy endings with the showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss:
“[They] are very smart, very bright, very methodical. They’ve had this in their heads for a long time. So there weren’t big debates about, should it end this way or not end this way, this is what they had planned.”
