Every year, A Song of Ice and Fire fans used to gather at the Con of Thrones to celebrate their love for the land of Westeros. However, due to the raging pandemic, the convention has been hit with cancellation, not once but twice. It was cancelled last year in 2020, as the world was hit with the first wave of coronavirus. Once again, the fan convention has been cancelled, this year in 2021, to avoid the further spread of the virus.
For the second year in a row, Mischief Management has decided to cancel Con of Thrones. This year’s event was due to take place in August, in Orlando, Florida. While things are safer now than they were, the pandemic has had collateral effects.
“While we’re confident that the vaccination rate makes it safer for groups to gather, international travel restrictions and other factors make it so we’re not able to host Con of Thrones at the level that the community has come to expect,” Mischief Management said in a statement on the Con of Thrones website. “We look forward to gathering again soon!”
“We are hard at work reimagining the event for the future, looking at alternative dates and locations so that we can gather again. We’ll keep you updated as these details come together!”
Tickets, autographs, photographs and the like will be refunded, while reservations at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, the official hotel partner of Con of Thrones, will be automatically cancelled.

The world is slowly trying to get back on its feet after the events of the Red Wedding year 2020. Nonetheless, people losing their jobs means there is also a rise in crime rates. In times like these, we wish for a superhero to exist in real life. Peter Dinklage, who played Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones, has also appeared on various superhero movies. He will now play a superhero himself in the Toxic Avenger reboot. The Toxic Avenger has now found his arch-nemesis, in the form of actor Kevin Bacon.
While details are scant regarding Bacon’s role. If the reboot follows the original film’s plot, it could potentially be that of the city’s corrupt Mayor whose criminal activities are threatened by the Toxic Avenger’s crime-fighting escapades. The filming is set to get underway in Bulgaria later this month.
The story follows a 98-pound weakling who falls into a vat of toxic waste, mutating him into a hulking monstrosity. With his new powers, the now-Toxic Avenger (nicknamed Toxie) protects the people of his town from crime and corruption.
Kevin and Peter have both been a part of the X-Men universe, where they played villainous roles. It would be interesting to see how the former Marvel stars would fit in their new roles in the Toxic Avenger.
Dinklage will also voice-star in the upcoming animated film This Was Our Pact. Are you excited about The Toxic Avenger? Talk to us in the comments below!
Fantasy epic Game of Thrones has become a pop culture icon due to its massive popularity in the past decade. It is a no brainer that the hugely famed series finds its way into being mentioned on various occasions. From politics to entertainment to sports, the show has often been compared with real-life situations. On Tuesday night, the Texas Rangers celebrated HBO’s Game of Thrones.
The Game of Thrones-themed night also featured a Westeros-inspired Willie Calhoun bobblehead. However, the Rangers were heavily criticized for celebrating Game of Thrones but not Pride Month. With June being Pride Month, most Major League Baseball teams are celebrating with different versions of Pride Day. The Rangers are the only Major League Baseball team that has not had some sort of Pride Day since 2003.
When the Dallas Morning News had a story about the Rangers not celebrating with a Pride Day. The team declined to speak with the paper about their stance on such a day or their possible work with the LGBTQ community.
According to The Advocate, an LGBT magazine, the Rangers had a promotion in 2003 where it invited various LGBT groups to the game. But it wasn’t an official Pride Day promotion. The game still drew anti-gay protesters, though.
While some Game of Thrones stars have actively stated to be gender-fluid, it comes as a big surprise that Rangers would do so little in that direction. What do you think of this issue? Talk to us in the comments below!
Well, as we all know already, American politics is no stranger to being the butt of jokes, and the only other place with politics that are as messed up, is Westeros. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise when analogies are often made between the two. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday suggested that there were more leaks under former President Trump than there are now. It was due to infighting among administration officials during the previous four years, comparing it to Game of Thrones.
“There’s not a lot of ‘Game of Thrones’ drama here, which feels like it may be a bit of … a shift from the last four years,” Psaki said when asked about the lack of leaks to the media at a conference hosted by the Financial Times.
Psaki said many White House staffers have a long history of working with Biden, and that’s created a different kind of atmosphere in the West Wing. “The culture of this White House is very much a put your head down. Get to work, do your thing, be a part of the team,” she said.
“He actually enjoys that back and forth and takes questions, I think. More than almost most presidents in modern history. In terms of the frequency of how often he takes questions from reporters,” she said, noting that Biden answered questions shouted by reporters at least 77 times in his first 100 days in office, according to a presidential historian.
“I think this has been a little bungled out there, [me] walking out the door on day 365,” Psaki concluded. “I have flexibility and can stay longer and likely will stay longer.”
