Yara Greyjoy was introduced to us way back in Game of Thrones season 2, and her tough personality left an impression upon the viewers. However, her recent appearance in season 6 when she claimed the throne to the Iron Islands and was shot down by her uncle Euron Greyjoy, which later led her to steal a hundred ships and sail to Meereen to form an alliance with Daenerys Targaryen, left a bigger impact on the fans than ever before. Yara’s character is a well-written, well executed one, that shows how powerful a woman she really is, and won’t be affected by misogynistic people like her uncle taking away her home. The credit goes to Gemma Whelan, the actress who portrays Yara on the show.
Although Yara is quite an impressive character, Gemma says she doesn’t get recognised by fans like her co-stars Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow) do. During an interview on Good Morning Britain, as reported by Metro Gemma spoke about how she hardly gets stopped on the street, saying,“‘People don’t normally recognise me. It is happening a bit more now because I’ve had more to do this season.”
She later said that even when fans do approach her, they ask her not to give spoilers about the show instead of telling them something about it.“‘People don’t normally recognise me. It is happening a bit more now because I’ve had more to do this season,” she said.
We hope to see more of Yara in the upcoming seasons, and probably a little more of Dany and Yara scenes as well while Dany takes her fleet to Westeros at last.
