Game of Thrones is a massive franchise, and has long been one of HBO‘s biggest moneymaker. The show has finished filming for its penultimate season, Season 7, which is set to premiere on July 16th. Now that we know that the show is coming to an end, we are already trying to hope for spin-offs; Prequels, sequels, anything at all. A Game of Thrones spin-off has been in the talks, as we have heard time and again, recently, but now we have more reason than ever to believe that we might actually get one. Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff himself, has said that the chances of a spin-off series are high! Read on!
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss were speaking at the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW), on the Game of Thrones panel moderated by Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark.) Talking about the chances of a spin-off, David said :
“The characters who maybe will survive — there’s always going to be this temptation to keep doing it… to do the spin-off show or do the sequel show and everything. And I think HBO might well do one. I’m looking forward to watching it, I think it’ll be great, but I think it’s better for them to get new blood in with new visions.”
Now, we all know that George R. R. Martin has enough stories from his universe, penned or not, to fuel at least one more on-screen adaptation. However, it’s disheartening to know that Benioff and Weiss probably will not be the ones running it, because we know and love the way they have shaped Game of Thrones. HBO is currently in talks with George R.R. Martin, but we are yet to get a solid confirmation.
The show has made a lot of money for HBO, so we don’t see why they shouldn’t consider a Game of Thrones spin-off series. What do you think? Talk to us in the comments, below!
