Cersei Lannister: Queen extraordinaire, intense brother-lover, fiercely beautiful, and manipulating to the point of driving someone insane. We love to hate the Queen Regent, and even after her humiliating walk of atonement, the deaths of two of her children, she’s been going strong. But now that she’s faced enough from nearly every single person in Westeros, Cersei Lannister is on the way to exact revenge for all that she’s been put through. Fans seem to think that the Lannister queen is set to turn into the Mad Queen, similar to the Mad King Aerys Targaryen. You might think that this sounds utterly ridiculous, but read on and you’ll see that there’s plenty evidence to support the theory.
To begin with, let’s go into a flashback over to the beginning of season 5, which started with a young Cersei meeting Maggy the Frog, a witch, to whom Cersei went to know what her future held. “Everyone wants to know their future, until they know their future,” is what Maggy had said to Cersei upon her arrival, and later when Cersei asked about her marriage to Prince Rhaegar, whom she was promised to, Maggy had said, “You will never wed the Prince, you will wed the King…You’ll be Queen, for a time. Then comes another — younger, more beautiful — to cast you down and take all you hold dear.”
This turned out to be true since Rhaegar married Elia Martell, and Cersei ended up with Robert Baratheon after Rhaegar was killed by him. The other predictions also came true, those about a younger and more beautiful queen, who Margaery Tyrell is.
Cersei then asked Maggy if she would have children with the King, to which Maggy replied, “No, the King will have 20 children, and you will have three. Gold will be their crowns, gold their shrouds.”
We’re all aware that Robert fathered many bastards (like Gendry) but had no legitimate children with Cersei. Her children were with her brother Jaime Lannister. Cersei has now already lost two of her children, Joffrey and Myrcella with only Tommen to spare until Cersei finally meets her fate. The show failed to tell us the entire prophecy, and a most ominous part was left out. According to the books, this is what Maggy ends her foretelling with: “And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar [High Valyrian for “little brother”] shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.”
This is where we need to talk about the whole ‘Mad Queen’ speculation. As we know, Cersei has become thirsty for revenge, and whomever she meets has been humiliating her only increasing her rage. This will be fueled when, as fans believe, Tommen will meet his end in her approaching trial by combat scenario. Fans believe that when Cersei loses her last hope and child, she will lose everything including her mind, and set out to destroy King’s Landing using the existing stock of wildfire. When Cersei turns into the Mad Queen with all her pyrotechniques, fans suggest that this might compel Jaime to kill her to save King’s Landing and its people from her wrath. Despite the fact that he has sworn to protect Cersei, he might just have to murder her like he did with Aerys Targaryen.
