The world is witnessing one of the most brutal international conflicts of recent times, as thousands of civilians struggle to survive the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. The current warzone, the Gaza strip, is seeing a total blackout as communication, electricity, water, and food supplies are down following the constant bombing by Israeli forces. Some NGOs are trying to provide help to the trapped civilians, and House of the Dragon star Olivia Cooke urged her followers to donate to them.
Olivia Cooke begs for a ceasefire
The ongoing Israel-Hamas struggle is way more terrifying than any Game of Thrones battle the world has seen, and House of the Dragon stars are horrified at the damage it has done to humanity. Olivia Cooke, who plays Queen Alicent Hightower, urged fans on Instagram to donate to an NGO called Oxfam, while begging the two governments to sign a ceasefire.
What is Oxfam doing in Gaza?
Although Oxfam’s partners have started a modest distribution of menstruation products, toothpaste, shampoo, and soap, the magnitude of the need and the ensuing logistical chaos present enormous obstacles to humanitarian relief efforts.
The state of the water is dire. According to Oxfam, the UN Water and Sanitation cluster, there are currently only three liters of water available per person in Gaza each day. According to the World Health Organization, an individual should consume 50–100 liters of water daily to meet their basic needs.
Their response, when it’s safe, will include restoring the water and wastewater networks that were damaged in the bombing, giving people access to clean water, supplies for sanitation and hygiene, food, and other necessities for their homes and incomes lost. The team will support those staying in emergency shelters if they are established.
