Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is currently in post-production, and fans are getting ready for season 2. Ewan Mitchell‘s Aemond Targaryen, who rides menacingly on Westeros’ biggest dragon, will play a significant role in the upcoming civil war. However, his The Last Kingdom co-star was once in the race to play the part in the prequel series.
The Last Kingdom’s Harry Gilby also auditioned for Aemond
The one-eyed rider of Vhagar almost had a different face, as Mitchell’s The Last Kingdom co-star had also auditioned for the role. Gilby played Æthelstan in the fifth season of The Last Kingdom. He revealed via The Screen Chronicles, “I went for that part. Yeah, I did. I think a lot of people went for that part. It was really cool too.”
Harry Gilby recalls Ewan Mitchell’s cold demeanor
Gilby, who had known Mitchell from their previous show, recalled, “He kept it really quiet. We auditioned for that when we were doing Season 5. We’re like, “It’s for Game of Thrones, isn’t it? That’s quite cool, right?” And he (Mitchell) was like, “Yeah, yeah…” (imitates Mitchell). And then he just didn’t say anything until he got the part.”
