Paddy Considine has won hearts all over the world, including George R.R. Martin’s, for his portrayal of King Viserys Targaryen on House of the Dragon. Even though we had to bid farewell to him after just eight episodes, it’s undeniable how much depth he brought to his character. The author of the book on which the show is based even said that Paddy’s Viserys was better than the book’s. Episode 8 was his swan song in House of the Dragon, and he executed even the most emotionally exhausting scenes flawlessly. Here’s a message he left for the fans of the show on his Instagram.

The actor thanked everyone who showered him with well-deserved praise, “Thank you for the kind words. I cannot reply to every comment, but I’d like to acknowledge that they haven’t been lost upon me. It was an incredible adventure where I made lots of new friends that will be with me for the rest of my life.”
He goes on to thank the showrunners and shouts out Brooke Sian who played Aemma Targaryen, “I’d like to thank the creators for allowing me the freedom to make Viserys my own. I have never loved a character so much. I want to give massive love and respect to @brooke.sian who came in for only a few days, but changed the course of my character with her brilliant performance and commitment to the work. The impact stayed with me until my final improvised words. She unlocked the missing piece of the puzzle for me, and allowed my story to come full circle. From the moment she dies, so does Viserys.”
“It was a love story,” Considine wrote, “That’s the secret I carried with me. As sick as he gets, he never, himself, demands any cure. He quietly accepts his suffering, never forgiving himself for putting his beloved wife through such torture in her final moments. Viserys was a gift. I am so honoured he found me.” He ended it with one of his dialogues as Viserys, “Now, no more.”
It sounds like Paddy has a speech locked and loaded to win an Emmy for his outstanding performance. Even George has declared that it would be an injustice if Paddy Considine does not get an Emmy. Do you agree? Join our discussions on our discord server to let us know!
