Something as legendary and vast as Game of Thrones can’t just end in eight seasons as we all know it. Since HBO has announced that the prequels of the show are under development, fans have something to look forward to after the final season of Game of Thrones. But it looks like the wait will be long enough, because HBO has just revealed that there won’t be any major progress on the spinoffs until at least a year after Game of Thrones ends.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly about it, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said:
The No. 1 priority in all of this is the final season of Game of Thrones. I don’t want to do anything with a spin-off or anything that detracts or distracts from that. That season will happen and my guess is it would be at least a year before you saw anything else. What I don’t want is the attention to be drawn from the final season, which I think is going to be epic and amazing and somehow have the distraction of a new Game of Thrones airing right after that. It’s best to separate it and that’s what we’ll do.
We still don’t know for sure whether season 8 will come out in 2018 or later in 2019, but on the positive side, we have a lot of Westeros to explore in the prequels. Though George R.R Martin has said that the spinoffs won’t involve Robert’s Rebellion or the adventures of Dunk and Egg, it should be interesting to see what’s in store for us in the much awaited prequels. Until then, we’ve got a lot to be excited about as season 7 continues to surprise us with every episode.
Let us know in the comments what you think the prequels will be about!
