Game of Thrones Season 8 is just over the horizon with the beginning of the year 2019 and we have high hopes from it. Talking more about the new season whose first teaser dropped last month – we haven’t heard anything else from Game of Thrones for a while now.
Well, you don’t have to worry much as we’ve got you a brand new Brandon Stark a.k.a. the Three-Eyed Raven video which was dropped by Hollywood Studio the last month.
In the teaser, Isaac Hempstead Wright – the actor who has played the role of Bran since the first season, literally growing up with the show along with his on-screen sisters Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), narrates Bran Stark’s journey so far. Watch the first part here:
As you must have already seen, Isaac narrates Bran’s character arc in the series until he reaches the cave of the original Three-Eyed Raven (Blood Raven). His journey first starts as a ten-year-old boy full of life and adventure who loves climbing high walls.
Then his life changes manifold when he witnesses something he wasn’t supposed to – the biggest secret of the Lannisters – Jaime and Cersei Lannister involved in an incestuous relationship. He is pushed out of the window of a high tower of Winterfell by Jaime.
If you are an avid book reader like me you would know of the third chapter of Bran in Book 1: A Game of Thrones and his coma dream. The chapter gives you an introduction to what will be the Journey of Bran and explains what TER’s quote of ‘flying’ means. It means that Bran will fly through time and space to gain the knowledge now lost in Westeros and will discover the secret to defeating the White Walkers.
Isaac then goes on explain how his character gains a number of companions – Summer, Hodor, Jojen, and Meera on his journey North. Let’s take a look at the second part:
In the second part, Isaac explains how Blood Raven takes him back in time to witness the aftermath of Robert’ Rebellion – the Tower of Joy scene from Season 6 which ties Jon Snow’s links to House Targaryen. He also explains how his journey leads to the loss of his most trusted friends – Summer and Hodor.
He explains how warging into young Hodor (Wyllis) leads to his seizure affecting his mind and we learn how Hodor gets the tongue and name of ‘Hodor’. Hodor ultimately sacrifices himself for Bran literally ‘holding-the-door’ for him to escape.
Isaac then explains Bran’s journey in Season 7 – reunion with his two sisters – Sansa and Arya and parting with Meera who infers that Bran has lost himself and has totally taken the persona of the Three-Eyed Raven. “Bran remembers what it was like to be Bran Stark but he remembers so much else now.”
Talking about the ‘Catspaw’ Valyrian Steel Dagger, Isaac explains how Bran had sensed that there will be some importance to this dagger – no wonder we find it in Samwell Tarly’s book in Old Town!
Isaac then explains Sansa Stark’s judgment for Littlefinger’s treason in the last episode of Season 7, taking consultation from Bran – a scene from Season 7 which was deliberately cut off. Isaac lastly takes you to the biggest team-up in the series yet – Bran and Sam – that holds a lot of importance in the upcoming events of Season 8. He explains how the duo discovers the true heritage of Jon and that his true name isn’t ‘Jon Snow’ but ‘Aegon Targaryen’.
Isaac at the end says “Everything gets very complicated because Jon and Daenerys are now in love…They’re gonna wage battle together and Jon is now pledging his support for her and by the end of season 7 it’s all a bit uncertain…” This quote is a big hint towards Jon and Dany being in love despite being related and working together in Season 8 to defeat the others.
We all want the official trailer and airing date of Season 8 so badly – now that 2018 is finally over and hope for it soon! What were your thoughts on the Bran Stark teaser? Tell us in the comments.
