Game of Thrones left us at a good point in the story at the end of Season 6, and the anticipation is at an all time high for the show’s return with Season 7, scheduled to begin on July 16th. While we wait for the season to drop, we are getting all the hype in one final, massive load, with cast interviews flying left and right. A recent interview had Aiden Gillen, who plays the role of Petyr Baelish, a.k.a. Littlefinger, finally confirm a long-standing Arya Stark theory. Read on!
Aiden Gillen recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly, who have been helping us all out with a lot of Season 7 news. He discussed a very important scene back in Season 2. If you remember, Littlefinger visits Lord Tywin Lannister at Harrenhal, while Arya is working for Tywin as a servant. She is shown to spill some wine, and Littlefinger is shown to notice her, very obviously. So did Littlefinger recognise her, or not? Aiden said :
“It was unclear if he recognized her or not, but I have my own thoughts on that. Yes, I did recognize her — I just didn’t say anything or do anything about it.”
Aiden didn’t say anything about as to why Littlefinger would have noticed her but not said or done anything about it. Like everybody else, we’re guessing he just wanted to let things run their course, considering how exposing her wouldn’t have done him any good.
He went on to talk about the whole Littlefinger/Sansa Stark deal. He talked about where that arc is headed :
“I finished last season on a promising note by laying my cards on the table — at least to Sansa. I was [sowing seeds of doubt about Jon Snow] throughout my appearances in season 6, and, yeah, that will continue. It’s pretty obvious what my game is there. We’re playing out that final exchange in the Great Hall in Winterfell. But the same time my character is becoming quite aware that Sansa is becoming as bright as me and just as wary of my manipulations of her. They’re onto each other. They use each other. They enjoy each other. And they keep a lot from each other. There are all kinds of mixed things going on with Littlefinger and his relationship with Sansa, so watching her grow in stature is quite enjoyable.”
He went on to speak about how it’s a risky game that Littlefinger is playing, but how the whole thing was very characteristic of him :
“With carefully laid plans there’s always a bit of risk involved. He puts himself in a situation that could backfire on him. But I think he likes that. His plans are never fail safe. But he puts himself on the line like a good gambler.”
So looks like we’re gonna be seeing Littlefinger play a lot more games in the coming season. Do you think he’ll make it to the end? Or will we see him get axed this season? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
