HBO seems to be at the receiving end of a cascading pile of leaks right now. As you know, HBO is currently facing a massive leak, in which the hackers are claiming to have over 1.5 TB of data, and threatening to leak it unless HBO pays up. Also, HBO’s partners have also been responsible for some of the leaks as the 4th episode was leaked and the source turned out to be Star India, while the latest, sixth episode, was accidentally aired on HBO Spain. We would have thought that this was the end of their security woes, but today, HBO’s Facebook and Twitter accounts were compromised by hackers in a new security breach. Read on!
BBC reports that a hacker group called OurMine succeeded in gaining control of HBO’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, which not only included the main accounts, but also those made for specific shows, including Game of Thrones. They revealed that they had taken over the accounts by posting through them. The posts read something along the lines of “OurMine are here. we are just testing your security.” Check out the screenshots, below :
This isn’t the first big target OurMine has hit. The group has a history of breaching popular accounts, with past hacks including Netflix, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
HBO seems to be having a bad time with hackers this season. They did manage to get four people arrested for the leak of the fourth episode, and the latest episode leak has been claimed to be an error. We’re yet to see how HBO responds to the big leak, and this particular breach of security, and we will update you as it comes. What do you think about this? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
