We have just begun to deal with the fact that our favorite show, Game of Thrones, will be ending within a couple of years. Like any other fandom would, upon the first hint of this thought, we started to go around looking for a follow-up. In recent times, we have gotten a fair bit of information about a Game of Thrones sequel, and we now have arrived at another (pseudo) official confirmation. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, HBO CEO, Richard Plepler talked about the Game of Thrones spin-off, and more.
Plepler was at Madrid, for the launch of HBO Spain. Talking about a possible Game of Thrones spin-off, he said :
“It certainly has not escaped [HBO president of programming] Casey [Bloys] and myself that there might be some brand extension [for GOT] that would be exciting. It certainly has not escaped the producers. Right now we’re focused on finishing the series with the kind of energy and excitement that everyone has come to expect. We’re going to do that while at the same time parallel processing very embryonic stages of other possibilities.”
That is somewhat reassuring! We certainly hope things move forward fast enough for us to have something to latch on to when Game of Thrones ends. As far as spin-offs go, Better Call Saul is living proof that you can follow up a great TV series with a spin-off equally as interesting!
